Review : Magnavox 42MF439B/F7 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV :

I purchased via a different online vendor (sale plus another discount paid for the shipping) – the TV’s box was well-packed with Styrofoam and the box took a beating (ala UPS) – but no damage to the unit. I’ve had the unit about 3 weeks and thus far, I have no complaints – nor do I expect any (fingers crossed, of course). As another reviewer noted, the remote is basic – very basic, but functional. I too was slightly disappointed with a few of the input limitations, however there are a host of alternatives with which to tinker I’m not particularly impressed with the stand – it “looks” nice, but it sure doesn’t feel very stable – the base is plastic, a rather thin-feeling plastic, at least to me. If the unit is never going to be moved, I suspect it’s a safe set-up, however if there is any chance of the thing being moved regularly (e.g., plugging items into the back where all the input jacks are housed) or perhaps reachable by small children, I’d vote for securing the thing to the wall or whatever it is housed in – just to be safe.

I like this flat screen TV very much. I am very disappointed that this size TV has been discontinued. I needed a 15″ square shaped TV because of limitations on dimensions where I was installing the TV. I am sure many other consumers may have the same issues. All new 15″ TV’s are actually a minimum of 18″ wide which was not a dimension my space could handle. I actually had to purchase a refurbished TV so I am concerned that its lifespan maybe short. I know manufacturers are basing their dimensions on wide screen formatting. Too bad for those of us who have a hole to fill that is not suited for widescreen.

I'm not sure how the other guy could not find the power button, because it is on the front in the lower right corner … You can see in the pictures, for crying out loud.

But anyway, I use this TV as second monitor for my laptop. It is a beautiful machine and synchronized for MacOS X and Windows XP. I connected with HDMI instead of VGA. All images and audio settings are for you to sell the fine-tuning to get a good picture and sound out of it. It1080i accept, as I recognized my Xbox 360 connected and on TV as 1080i. It is a fantastic picture, and I noticed no lag between input and output controller monitor – while playing Guitar Hero, but – I think it is a reaction time of 5 ms.

I bought this tv from Target never having owned a HDTV before. I did a little research and compared this model to others of the same size. My old television was a Magnavox and it lasted forever. In fact, the only reason I bought a new tv was because I wanted something larger. I gave the old one to a friend.
This set needs few adjustments out of the box. Most of the factory settings should work just fine for the picture and color. Others complain about the buzzing that the set makes. While I’ve heard this before, I had to stand right above the set and mute it to hear what everybody was talking about. It’s hardly noticeable.Others complain about the quality of the sound that comes out of the factory speakers. If you change the sound settings to virtual surround sound in the TV setup, you’ll be fine. I noticed a huge difference.
The remote is kind of small. It would have been nice if a universal remote would have been included with the set. The number of inputs is more than sufficient (2 HDMI, 2RGB, PC, 2RCA, and some other thing for a S cable that I don’t use. I would recommend this set to anyone looking to buy an HDTV. Be prepared to buy RGB cables if you don’t already have them. They make a big difference in picture quality.
